A part of being a graphic designer is being up-to-date with what’s going on around you. It is not only important to follow the latest trend but also to keep learning new things.  Doing so helps you to be on top of your game. Apart from a classroom and on-the-job learning, there are many outlets to learn and be up-to-date with new tricks. One of such outlets is design podcast.

Design Podcast | The Deeply Graphic Design Cast

“The Deeply Graphic Design Cast” is one such podcast that I’ve been following for years. This podcast is a bi-weekly dose of design education, inspiration, tips and tricks; and the best part is that it is highly entertaining. The Deeply Graphic Design Cast is run by The Deep End Design Studio in Los Angeles.

The hosts are successful working designers who are experts in their fields. There are six hosts (Wes McDowell, Mikelle Morrison, Nick Longo, Brandon Voss, Kristi Duce and Sam Cox)whose expertise as well as a mixture of viewpoints makes the podcast interesting to listen to. Each episode in this podcast runs roughly an hour. You can expect new episode release in about two weeks.

This design podcast has a mission to educate graphic designers in a conversational and informal way. Each episode covers different topics related to graphic design such as finding better clients, online portfolios, financial aspects of a freelancer etc. The hosts talk about a single design-related topic on every episode. In addition, they also take a turn answering the questions sent in by the listeners. Towards the end of the show, in a segment “Do yourself a favour” the hosts share the tricks they have recently learned.

In conclusion, this is one of the must-follow podcast as there are a lot of things that designers – freelance, corporate, new, as well as experienced designers, can learn. As it covers many practical topics which they don’t teach in school, a young designer can learn how it works in the real world. Similarly, for experienced designers, it helps you think of things in new and different ways.

Do you follow the show? What do you think about it?
