Many people believe that creativity is something that you are born with. They believe you either are creative or you are not. But in contrast to the popular belief, creativity is not your birth-right. In fact, it is a skill that grows over time with regular practice. Similar to any other skills, it can also get rusty at times. I have known some of the most creative people struggle with a creative block. Days, weeks and even months pass-by and they can not have a creative idea. Follow these quick tips and get your creative juices flowing again.

1. Routine is boring. Break away from it!

One of the major reason for the creative block is routine. When you have a monotonous life day-after-day, the excitement starts to reduce and so does creativity. So get out of the same pattern and get a new perspective. Meet new people, go to new places and try out new things.

2. Music is the strongest form of magic!

Relax, sit back (or lie down), put on your favourite music and just listen. It doesn’t matter whether you like rock or jazz, blues or heavy metal. Whatever your preference, music does wonder. Alternatively, you can also try some new genres if you want to break the routine.

3. Note down the ideas when you have one!

Ideas don’talways strike when you want them to. You can get ideas at any time. That is why always make a habit of carrying a pen and a paper or note it down on your phone. You can find many free note taking apps for your phone

4. Inspire yourself!

Get inspiration through other’s works. Browse through artworks, paintings, photographs etc. As a result, it often triggers your subconscious mind and you can get the idea that you need. There are many websites for inspiration such asBehance, Dribbble, 500px, Flickr etc. Additionally, you can also visit the inspiration section or follow GraphicSort on Instagram.

5. Early to bed, early to rise…

If you are a graphic designer, there is a high chance you haven’t seen a sunrise in ages. There is something that feels right working till latenight while sipping coffee. Or it could just be watching a movie or browsing through the web. But a good amount of sleep is imperative for healthy and active brain function which is crucialfor creativity. And the cool morning breeze, the first light and the fresh smell in the air can freshen you upand give you the boost that you need.
